 Chianti Classico

Chianti Classico began life in 1985, as Chianti, a trattoria-style restaurant in Light Square. It was pizza and pasta and wine. Family operated, the atmosphere had a kind of piazza-like festivity to it and that mood continued when Chianti moved to Hutt Street in 2000. Here, there is the same buoyant spirit but now the laughter has moved indoors and the menu has extended.

Chianti Classico offers a fine dining experience; simple, elegant, but without pretension. The food is Italian.- fresh, seasonal ingredients, that's the key. The flavours and aromas are always sensual and sometimes cerebral.

Luisa Favaro, our mum, together with our head chef Tobias Gush, are our magicians in the kitchen, cooking up traditional dishes from Tuscany and the Veneto area. Together they present these peasant recipes with a modern enthusiasm for simplicity.

Our intention is to treat you like a guest in our home; give you food to savour, along with special treats. For example, when in season, you might experience the famous white truffle from Alba while sipping a glass of Barolo. Naturally there is always homemade pasta. We like local produce and we demand quality, so the fish almost jump onto the table, and the meat is the very best. Desserts are fast becoming our trademark.

There are superb wines from the Barossa, Clare Valley, and McLaren Vale, and the very finest from the Chianti region of Italy. We travel to Italy regularly to seek out forgotten recipes or to hunt down new ideas, but it all comes together here in Adelaide when we share it with you. So call into Chianti Classico some time soon
